Kaohsiung Lighthouse

Perched atop Cihou Mountain on Cijin Island, the Kaohsiung Lighthouse, also known as Cihou Lighthouse, is a historic landmark offering stunning panoramic views of Kaohsiung Harbor and the Taiwan Strait. Originally built by the British in 1883 during the Qing Dynasty, the lighthouse was later rebuilt in 1918 by the Japanese and remains a key part of Taiwan’s maritime navigation system.

The lighthouse features a unique blend of Western and Japanese architectural styles, with a white octagonal tower and a black lantern dome. Standing at 15.2 meters tall, it continues to guide ships safely into the busy Port of Kaohsiung.

Besides its navigational role, the Kaohsiung Lighthouse is a popular tourist spot. Visitors can walk up the hill through scenic paths and enjoy breathtaking coastal views, especially at sunset. The site also provides a glimpse into Taiwan’s colonial past and maritime heritage.

Whether you're a history enthusiast, a photography lover, or simply looking for a peaceful viewpoint, the Kaohsiung Lighthouse is a must-visit destination in Cijin.
